Hair Tips, Care & Maintenance

Hair Tips, Care & Maintenance

Proper care is essential to maintain the quality, appearance, and longevity of your wig. Damage caused by improper care, excessive heat, chemical processing, or neglect does not qualify as a defect.

Heat Styling & Hot Tools

  • Avoid excessive heat. High heat causes permanent, irreversible damage.
  • Always apply a heat protectant before using hot tools.
  • Use low to moderate heat settings only.
  • Frequent heat styling shortens the lifespan of the wig.

Products to Avoid

  • Avoid products containing alcohol or sulfates. These dry out and weaken the hair.
  • Avoid excessive oils, heavy creams, or product buildup.
  • Use lightweight, moisture-rich products sparingly.
  • Any cutting or chemical processing (coloring, perming) should be done by a licensed professional.
  • We do not recommend lifting or bleaching hair. Depositing color only provides the best results.

Grooming & Daily Handling

  • Detangle gently using a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends and working upward.
  • Lace is delicate. Do not pull, tug, or overstretch.
  • Avoid aggressive brushing or over-manipulation.
  • If you are unfamiliar with proper installation or care, seek a licensed professional stylist.

Storage

  • For short-term storage, place the wig on a mannequin head to maintain shape.
  • For long-term storage, store the wig in a satin bag in a cool, dry environment.
  • Keep wigs away from dust, moisture, and direct sunlight.

Bed, Bath & Water Exposure

  • Do not sleep, shower, or swim while wearing your wig.
  • Avoid contact with chlorinated water, saltwater, and hot water.
  • Water exposure can cause tangling, matting, shedding, and breakage.

Washing & Conditioning

Pre-Wash

  • Detangle the hair gently before washing.

Washing

  • Use a sulfate-free, moisture-rich shampoo.
  • Do not soak or submerge the wig.
  • Rinse under cool running water.
  • Apply shampoo using a downward motion from roots to ends.
  • Do not rub, massage, twist, or wring.
  • Rinse until water runs clear.

Conditioning

  • Apply conditioner from mid-shaft to ends only.
Avoid the base, knots, and lace.
  • Leave on for 5 minutes or per product instructions.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
  • Gently press out excess water using a towel. Do not twist.
  • Do not comb or brush while wet.
  • Air dry in a cool area. Avoid direct sunlight.

Styling

  • Section hair before styling.
  • Air drying is recommended whenever possible.
  • Avoid blow drying to prevent dryness and damage.
  • Use low heat for flat ironing or curling.
  • Always apply heat protectant before styling.

Curly & Textured Hair Care

  • Use alcohol-free, sulfate-free, moisture-rich products.
  • Detangle only when wet, using a wide-tooth comb or Denman brush.
  • Do not brush or comb curly hair when dry.
  • Limit manipulation to prevent frizz and shedding.
  • Condition curly wigs for at least 15 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly.
  • Scrunch gently while damp to define curls.
  • Apply a small amount of anti-frizz serum if needed.
  • Avoid over-combing and over-styling.

Longevity Expectations

  • Light shedding is normal.
  • With proper care and maintenance, wigs can last 1 year or longer.
  • Longevity depends on care, styling habits, and chemical exposure.

Professional Care Recommendation

For best results, professional installation, coloring, and maintenance are recommended.
